Basics Of Designing A Retail Store

Written by Miguel Rodriguez on December 21, 2009 – 3:14 am -

In today’s competitive market, there is a lot of interest in trying out new ideas and means of drawing more customers to any retail store. If you are the proud possessor of one such store, here are some ideas on how managing the retail design of your shop can help you give your outlet or showroom that extra edge.

Your store should give a feeling of ease and comfort to the visitors, and in doing this keep in mind that the first impressions are usually the most critical ones. When a customer first enters, he should be made to feel fully at ease and must get the feeling that you are delighted by his presence.

Leaving some area close to the store’s main doors will give your visitor the chance to adjust to the new surroundings and also observe the store’s layout and products cursorily. The store’s layout must be managed in such a way as to let visitors have a complete unhindered view of your range of items at one single, sweeping glance. In order to make your merchandise more within reach to all customers, you will need to ensure that shelves are of the right height to make products on highest rows visible with minimum effort. He or she should be able to reach out and replace products with minimum strain. Leave sufficient area between rows of shelves to allow two customers look through parallel shelves at the same time without squeezing past one another.

Human instinct makes almost everyone move first to their right naturally. Inspire movement to the right by the design of your layout and give your shoppers a sense of convenience which will keep them coming to your outlet. Clearly mark the aisles with the classification of merchandise they contain and you will find more people coming in just because your store is so organized that they can conclude their shopping quickly.

How people view your store and whether they enjoy shopping there or not depends largely on how it looks and feels. Put these guidelines into action and you will find that your first time visitors will soon make your store their regular shopping destination.
