How Solar Panels Work?

Written by garage on October 24, 2009 – 8:08 pm -

Do solar panels work?.  solar panels are flat due to having to be positioned on a roof on a 90 degree angle from the suns energy. Solar panels are most commonly made from Photovoltaic panels,,these photovoltaic panels absorb their energy from the suns rays through a variety of smaller cells, just like plants absorb energy from the sun.

How Does a Solar Panel Work? Take a look at another fantastic article see How Solar Panels Work?

Lets look at another way of decscribing how a solar panel works, when the suns rays hit these smaller cells on the photovoltaic panel, once this has happened the energy is then transferred to a silicon semiconductor these photons are then turned into electricity, which is then passed onto connecting wires and finally entering into a power generator system.

Solar panels which are made from silicon employ solar thermal energy to produce electricity.  These Silicon atoms are then used to help create the plates of solar panels. A more technical explanation for creating silicon solar panels is by combining other elements with silicon which have positive or negative charges I hope this helped you understand a little bit more about the technical side for silicon panels.

{Silicon solar panels can range from being used to heat water as solar hot water panels like those that are used for storing solar energy}. The uses of silicon panels are extremely close to photovoltaic panels which are both commonly used in the professional solar power industry.

Solar panels and humanity?

Currently solar energy is being used in so many ways such as in parking lots to power lights, transportation signaling i.e. harbours and lighthouses. We are even using solar panels on structures and tall buildings as aircraft warning lights. Solar panels can also be used for providing power environmental and situation monitoring equipment and corrosion protection system.

The residential sector is also using solar panels, they are placed on flat surfaces such as roof tops and terraces to create solar energy, such as hot water, solar lights to light walkways especially in our gardens and flag-posts. Isolated buildings such as schools, hospitals, the hospitality industry and community halls are all benefiting from solar energy. Solar energy also provides power to telephones, televisions and videos. Also there is an enormous range of refrigeration systems i.e vaccine refrigeration etc. Power plants can also be configured in isolated areas so they can power homes or be used as a depot where batteries can be recharged.

Water is pumped through a pv system in remote areas. Solar water systems can be used on open water or even submerged.

Desalination plants can on a larger scale use pv panels. Large electrical loads can be powered by PV modules which helps produce more battery storage.

How diesel engines and solar panels work together?

Solar panels can be seen in even smaller configuration where PV panels are configured with small diesel generators which can supply the back power keeping the maintenance costs and fuel down to a minimal price.

Some of us use solar powered items everyday around the house and personal items such as watches and calculators, usually these items don’t even have an off switch, where there is light there is energy .
